Expocentric and Event Mill Launch Expocentric WA with Major Investment in Western Australia

New 2,200sqm Jandakot facility brings large-scale exhibition stands, activations, event builds and retail displays closer to WA brands

Perth, Western Australia – Expocentric and Event Mill have officially launched Expocentric WA, a new exhibition, activation and event production company established to bring greater large-scale design, manufacturing and production capability to Western Australia.

Operating from a newly secured 2,200-square-metre manufacturing and production facility in Jandakot, Expocentric WA represents a significant investment in Western Australia’s growing exhibition and events industry.

The joint venture combines Expocentric’s national experience delivering high-end exhibition environments and major brand activations with Event Mill’s established Western Australian operations, local market knowledge and event production capability.

The new operation brings significant additional exhibition manufacturing and production capacity into Western Australia, allowing more complex and ambitious projects to be designed, manufactured, pre-built and delivered locally.

Bringing More Major Exhibition Production to WA

Many of the largest and most elaborate exhibition stands appearing at Western Australian events are currently designed and manufactured on the east coast before being transported thousands of kilometres to Perth.

This model can add substantial freight, travel, labour and logistics costs to major projects, while also increasing their environmental impact.

Based on Expocentric’s experience delivering major exhibition projects across Australia, delivering the same large custom exhibition stand in Perth can cost a client approximately $50,000 more than delivering it at a comparable Sydney event, largely as a result of interstate freight, travel and associated logistics.

Expocentric WA has been established to change that equation.

By designing, manufacturing, storing and delivering projects locally, the company will give brands greater access to ambitious, high-production-value exhibition environments without the traditional east coast freight premium.

The local operation will also provide shorter lead times, faster design changes, direct access to the production team and greater control over project costs, quality and outcomes.

“I have personally been travelling to Perth to deliver exhibition stands since 2008, and the cost of transporting major builds from the east coast has continued to climb. In many cases, a client can spend around $50,000 more simply because their event is in Perth rather than Sydney.

“We have worked in the Western Australian market for many years and we see enormous opportunity here. The market is continuing to grow, brands are becoming more ambitious in what they want to create, and we believe the time is right to make a substantial long-term investment in local capability.”

A 2,200sqm Facility Built for Ambitious Projects

The Jandakot facility has been established to support large and technically complex projects from initial concept through to manufacturing, pre-build and installation.

Its in-house production capabilities will include:

High-end custom joinery and fabrication
Wide-format printing and graphic production
Large-scale audiovisual and technology solutions
Project storage and logistics
More than 2,000 Aluvision frames for modular and custom construction
Full pre-builds, quality control and client inspections prior to installation

This infrastructure will allow Expocentric WA to service individual exhibitors, major national and Western Australian brands, retailers, event agencies and exhibition organisers.

It will also create new local employment opportunities across design, project management, manufacturing, printing, audiovisual production, logistics and installation.

Kruss said establishing genuine production capability in WA, rather than simply creating a local sales presence, was fundamental to the company’s strategy.

“If you want to materially change what can be delivered in a market, you need the infrastructure behind it,” he said.

“That means having the space to manufacture and pre-build major projects, the equipment and technology required to produce them, and importantly, the people on the ground who can deliver them.

“We are investing in all of those areas because this is not a short-term expansion for Expocentric. We see Western Australia as an important part of our national business for the long term.”

Expocentric WA has been created not only to service brands already exhibiting in Western Australia, but also to support exhibition organisers and event agencies looking to deliver larger, more sophisticated and more ambitious experiences in the state.

The new operation will provide WA clients and organisers with greater local access to the scale of design, manufacturing, audiovisual technology and production capability typically associated with Australia’s largest exhibition markets.

“Western Australia deserves the same level of exhibition design, technology and production that brands expect at the country’s largest east coast events,” said Kruss.

“There is an enormous opportunity to continue lifting the scale and production value of exhibitions, activations and brand experiences in WA.

“We want brands to be able to bring their biggest ideas to Perth without having to compromise because of geography or spend a significant part of their budget simply getting infrastructure across the country.”

Event Mill Directors Jesse Wilson and Nick Spencer said the partnership was built around combining two businesses with complementary strengths.

“Expocentric brings an enormous amount of specialist exhibition experience, design capability and national knowledge to the partnership, while Event Mill brings an established WA operation, local relationships, event production experience and a detailed understanding of this market,” said Wilson.
